How to get a car accident report in Nebraska

Step by step

1. Confirm an officer investigated. You want the 'Investigator's Crash Report' completed by a law enforcement officer — that report is public under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 60-699. If no officer responded to the scene, only a confidential Driver's Report exists and cannot be purchased by the public.
2. Gather the required lookup details. Have ready the crash date, the crash location including the county, and a driver's name involved in the crash. NDOT searches on these fields (not report number, DL, or VIN).
3. Request the copy from NDOT Highway Safety Section. Request the report online or by email (NDOT.CrashReport@Nebraska.gov), phone (402-479-4645), mail (P.O. Box 94759, Lincoln, NE 68509-4759), or in person (1500 Nebraska Parkway, Room 14B, Lincoln). NDOT is the statewide records point for officer crash reports from all Nebraska agencies.
4. Pay the $13 + tax fee. The cost is $13 plus tax per copy of the investigator's crash report.
5. Receive and review the report. Once processed, you receive the officer's crash report. Review it for accuracy before submitting it to your insurer.
